The shawl I knit for Ty’s mom was blocked the night before we left for Boston (where my parents live), and Ty’s dad? Well he was getting an NYU mug, to replace his broken GWU mug. As I was blocking the shawl I was thinking about the shawl versus the mug. Didn’t seem quite even to me. Ok, so maybe his feet get cold and he’d like some warm wooly socks. Thursday mostly involved packing for our trip, and the tiniest bit of my studying for my final that afternoon. Not quite enough time to grab yarn for socks (can you believe I don’t have dk/worsted yarn appropriate for man socks? Me too).
Fortunately Ty’s become pretty savvy in a yarn shop, and I was able to look up which yarn would be appropriate on Brooklyn General Store’s website. Madelinetosh DK to the rescue! I wound up the skein on the 22nd, with my sister holding the yarn, as I taught my grandmother about gauge and hand-dyed yarns and Vogue Knitting Live. It was a little surreal to be teaching her these things, not only because she’s my grandmother, but because she used to knit!

These socks worked up so quickly on size 4 needles, but I’m still a little worried they’ll be too small. They fit Ty’s feet pretty well, and Ty’s dad is a size smaller, but worrying comes naturally to me.
Happy holidays from the airport! On our way to Christmas #2.
