Musical Writing

7 Nov

I’m going to respond to a prompt from a few days ago, because, well I want to.

Can you listen to music and write? What song did you hear today?

Usually I can write and listen to music at the same time, it actually how I like writing. I’ve never like the silence when I’m doing something. I’ll put on Pandora radio while I’m home and listen to music at work when I can. I usually have a song stuck in my head, although sometimes I don’t know what it is, which is why I like listening to music. When I’m writing something that I have to focus on, like papers for school, I need something that gives me background noise, but isn’t too distracting. My go-to for studying and paper writing has be Placebo for a few years now, and a few of their songs remind me strongly of the fluorescent lights and the cubicles in the library.

Blog writing is a little different, and if I’m not trying to multi-task by watching tv or talking while writing, I need something a little more upbeat, such as Sara Bareilles. The song that was stuck in my head earlier happened to be a song from the show Castle, as song that was created for the episode. Fortunately they played it over and over again in the episode, otherwise I’d be worried that I remember the song from watching it a single time.

Only a few times have I started writing lyrics instead of my intended sentence.

Fun Photos

Now you can see what fun I’ve been having with my new camera. I definitely think they’ve improved my Etsy listings.

Since I got my dad’s old SLR camera I’ve been playing around with the settings trying to see how to get good pictures, partly for fun and partly for my etsy listings. I was going to share some if my experimental pictures, but my internet is suddenly is on the fritz. So you’ll just have to deal with a picture of the autumn trees from my phone.

When you are writing, do you prefer to use a pen or a computer?

Most often I am writing on a computer, usually at work, sometimes on my netbook at home. I like the easy-press keyboard keys that most laptops have, it always makes it seem like I don’t have to wait for my fingers to respond in order to get the words down. The few times I’ve had to use the older keyboards with big clunky keys it’s been so frustrating and I’m grateful that I don’t have to deal with them very often.

When I do write on paper it tends to be with a pencil, much easier to fix my silly spelling errors and the like. However, occasionally I’ll be writing with nice ball point pen and my writing gets very script like as the words flow out of me and onto the paper. It’s a nice way to write down something that’s been pressing on my mind, but I admit that I don’t do it very often. The convenience of a computer usually wins out.

Happy writing!

Need Moar Yarn

2 Nov

Yesterday I was able to wear my sweater dress for the first time in appropriate weather, but unfortunately I still have no pictures. And as yesterday was Tuesday I got to show it off to everyone at Looped. I definitely need to order some more Knitpicks cotton to make a second, hopefully a little longer and with better fitting sleeves.

My swatch for Working Diamonds is done and now all I need to do is some math, in theory. Maybe a spreadsheet is in order, they certainly make repetitive math easier. The more I knit with the gorgeous brown color I have for this sweater, the more I’m thinking I’ll keep it for myself. I certainly don’t have enough hand knit sweaters for myself, or at least not ones that I’m proud of. I am a little worried that Ty will be jealous if I make myself another sweater without ever having made him one. I still can’t decide on a yarn for his sweater, although I’m sure I’ll end up with Cascade 220.

If you knew that whatever you ate next would be your last meal, what would you want it to be?

I saw this prompt last night and the first thing that came into my mind was Shepherd’s Pie, just the way my mom makes it. But the more I thought about it, the more I realize that I know what all of my favorite dishes taste like, and if I only had one left, why not try something new? So my last meal preference would be to give Ty a fully stocked kitchen and let him have at it. What sounds better than that?

Happy Knitting!

P.S. Tonight I will try a heel flap and gusset, something I haven’t done since 2005, and it will be translating a cuff down pattern to a toe-up. Good luck to me.
