Food Coma Post

2 Sep

I just ate lunch, so I’m a bit sleepy now = perfect time to post! (not really). Only a few updates really. The sweater dress is still chugging along. I really feel like it should be mostly done by now, but it’s not. I’ll probably need more yarn, which will just have to be combined with other stuff from knitpicks, big bummer. The other yarn will most likely be for me to revisit my older patterns. There are a few that need a pattern makeover and more sizes, and some that just need better pictures. It’ll be nice to revisit them, it’s weird to think that it’s been so long since I made many of them. And there are one or two that were so soon after I learned to knit, certainly before I learned what gauge was!

The Katherine pattern is really only waiting for me to make the chart. I’ve taken a few decent photos, good enough for test knitters, but I might want to do a nicer photo shoot with someone else actually taking the pictures before I publish. Gabriella is out on ravelry, and I’ve had quite a bit of interest, which is nice to see. It turned out to be a really nice pattern, and hopefully as simple to follow as possible, considering some of the tricky stitch picking up that goes on.

As it’s been starting to cool off a bit here (very weird even for September), it’s reminding me that I should really get a move on with some of the things I promised Ty. Like his man-version of Gabriella (Gabe?) with rugby stripes and no cables. I bought the yarn a while ago from Looped, I think it was navy and red, I forget what brand though. Oh! And speaking of Looped, guess where I was Tuesday night? Knit night at Looped!! Finally, I went, and it was as fabulous as I expected. I will definitely be making a habit of it. GWU knitting was on Wednesday as well, a little weird to be on campus with everyone there again. I can’t understand how Alex and Will work on campus, it’d drive me crazy/make me feel old.

And I’m sure there was one more thing I was going to mention, but I guess my food coma has gotten the best of me again.

Happy Knitting this long weekend!

You are the only exception

OK, I’ve got Paramore stuck in my head. Not my fault, they’re good!

Well recently my projects have been helping Ashley finish her Christmas presents. Not entirely sure if that’s cheating or not, but I don’t mind helping her out, she got a little carried away with all the projects she had in mind. I’ve dont almost two pairs of gloves for her in about the time it’s taken her to do half a glove. But that’s what practice is for.

There’s still some stuff that I need to put up on my Etsy, and some projects I have in mind for yarn in my stash. I see all these huge knit cowls around the city and that’s next on my list. I was also thing about knitting with I-cord. I have a huge amount of this black wool yarn that I got forever ago in hopes of knitting a peacoat (yeah right…). So I could make a cute scarf or cowl with I-cord, it’d be nice and bulky. My only issue with this idea is that I-cord is a pain to make, and I’m not shelling out for a hand crank I-cord maker if my idea’s not that great.

Stitch ‘n Bitch last week was awesome, lots of new people showed up after they saw the announcement in GWeekly. I was actually very unprepared, because I had forgotten I had put the announcement in and wasn’t expecting a response from it anyway. So I only had one knit kit with me, but this week I am prepared. I have needles and I’m going to make skeins too.

Tomorrow I’m helping out Ellie teach her after school children how to knit. Should be interesting, it’s the first time I’ve really worked with anyone that young. Hopefully we don’t have to be as worried as Ellie seemed to be about the knitting needles being used as shivs, but it is a SE school… I’m sure we’ll be fine.

Happy knitting!

Resolutions

13 Jan

Well, more like a few hopes and dreams. It’s the last semester of college *gasp* and I’m supposedly not busy, with only one class and all. So I’m hoping to have one final go of it and try to get Stitch ‘n Bitch up and running. There’s a trunk show at Looped in two weeks and I want to get some sort of group together and go. Maybe tomorrow or something we’ll poster around campus, though that would require actually having something to poster…

Also, I’m about halfway done with my first lace shawl and I think it’s going really well. It looks super pretty, I can’t wait to block it. It’s in Knit Picks Shadow lace, color is Pink Posy. I like the pattern, Madli’s Shawl, but I’m not sure that’s what I’m going to do for the wedding shawls. And I have no idea what color I want for them either, especially if all the girls are different colors.  But I guess if this shawl hasn’t take too long, I don’t have to stress about it just yet.  What we really need to get going on is the save-the-dates.

And I have this great Tree Frog yarn that I want to make fingerless gloves, with a mitten top thing, and I even have a cable pattern that I like, but I just haven’t wanted to do math and stuff to figure it out. The cable pattern is pretty cool, and I even found a nice way to close off a cable so that it looks nice, found it on the girl from auntie, though I’m sure that the close off has been around elsewhere and I’m just oblivious.I finally started, and finished, my brother’s hat in this gorgeously soft yarn that I got from Looped a while ago, can’t remember what it was, but it was a light natural color. I thought it would be great for my brother, but after I finished I realized that because of how light it is it looks a little girly. But I’m going to send it to him anyway and he can give it to his girlfriend who it would look adorable on.

Trying to update my Etsy too, hope to sell some stuff, but we’ll see how well that works out.

Happy knitting!

So not only has it been freaking forever since I posted (bad Dana!), but there’s actually stuff to report. School’s started, obviously, and been keeping me bored and busy, not a fun combination. Also, Stitch ‘n Bitch has been commissioned by the official GW soccer team fan club, the “J Street Hooligans” (awesome name by the way..), to make supporter’s scarves! We’ve given them nine so far, and we’re still truckin’. They take way too long to make, but I think they’re nice, even if each one is a bit different, depending on the knitter and the week. They made it into the GW Hatchet, and we got a nice picture of our scarves in too, not that we were mentioned… But it was more about the soccer team than the fans.

Haven’t been knitting much else than the scarves for a while, but I grabbed some lace shawl patterns that I really want to test out. If I can manage to successfully knit a lace shawl in a decent amount of time then it’s not crazy for me to try to make them for my bridesmaids. Other than that I’m just trying to keep Stitch ‘n Bitch alive, had to re-register, and I really need to get some people to help out with postering. I wish I could just find someone who’s a sophomore or something that is really excited about SnB, and wants to help it grow, because otherwise I’m pretty sure that it will die out once Alex and I graduate. But… hopefully if we get some new people this year we’ll find someone useful.

Well… Happy Knitting…

Alright, so this is in leu of actually doing any of my homework. I am sick, and I think I am getting sicker. Also, knitting is going AWESOME because we’ve had a ton of people show up and it looks like this time is it! We’ve finally got people coming back and being interested. Also, I started a sweater and it’s going along very nicely. I’ll get some pictures up at some point, probably not till after it’s done. But it’s a beautiful blue, and I’ve never made a cardigan before, so we’ll see how this goes.
I better get back to that paper that’s due tomorrow…..
